Panoramic Places in GenoaScenic Views and other Must Do ActivitiesPANORAMIC PLACES People who wish to visit a city like Genoa will notice one thing, and that is the stunning views from hillsides, where you can take in almost all of Genoa from a high perch in nearby cities located in Genoa. With close range to the beach as well, you can find yourself on the sand enjoying the sun and take a dip into the cool ocean water. From any of these views, you've seen much of Genoa already! Here are some famous places to get a great view from: The most famous panoramic place is called Castelletto, it is very close to the port and the Principe railway station and you can easily get there through the public transit system. From there you can see the port and all of the historical center. It is a very famous place, especially among ancient people and lovers. Sunset on the sea watched from there are simply fantastic. Another typical panoramic place is called Righi, from there you can see both valleys: Bisagno and Polcevera, all the while walking through streets near old walls and castles of the city built around the XVII century.
To see an even better view of the port you can go on the highest mountain of the Polcevera Valley, out of Genoa, in the land of Ceranesi: the Monte Figogna, better known as Madonna Della Guardia from the name of the sanctuary. If you go there you are on a mountain high 841mt and you can see the port and, on the most clear days also the northern coast of Corsica to South and the Cervino mountain to North. From another sanctuary close to Genova Brignole Railway Station you can see the Bisagno Valley, the Foce zone and the center of the city. In the 1992, during the celebrations for Christopher Columbus a touristic lift was built in the old port, from there you can see the city from the high by the seaside. TRAINS IN GENOA Genoa has two important railway stations but also two important train systems: The national train system that connects the city to many other sites in Italy and in Europe, the other a little regional train system that connects Genoa with a town nearby called Casella. Speaking about most important Genoa Railway stations, we have Genova Principe and Genova Brignole. The last one was built for second nearest to the international exposition for Genoa, and the decision to build it was taken in 1905 for the worldwide exposition, year that saw the building projected by Giovanni Ottino completed. But for sure tourists who come in Genoa have to visit the other station: Genova Principe, the first and most important station of the city built in the center of the arc of the port in a very good place for moving people and goods. It is a very artistic and large building of neoclassical inspiration realized in 1860 for the track Genoa - Turin, the first trek in the northern part of Genoa. A project of the Architect Alessandro Mazzucchetti. The original station was enlarged in 1900 thanks to the project of the engeneer Giacomo Radini Tedeschi. It is a pity that, during the second world war, the steel vault of the old part was destroyed in order to use the metal for war and this was never reconstructed. The other railway line of Genoa, the line between Genoa and Casella. It is a typical touristic train that starts near the McKenzie castle (built between 1896 and 1906, near Piazza Manin, in the center of Genoa) and reach Casella through one a track considered one of the most romantic in the world. This railway line is in a sort of way the history of Italian railway lines. This track it is still in service (arrived in Genoa in 1962) the most ancient locomotive actually on Italian tracks (1924), and trains have in large part material made on 1929 maintained in very good conditions. Traveling on these trains is an experience that is for sure to do for a tourist. by Francesco Ristori Join our Community to commentOnly members of lifeinItaly community are allowed to post. Please join our community !
