Capo Vaticano is a large swimming and sunbathing destination in the municipality of Ricadi, part of Italy's Calabria region. The cape is made from grey white granite which has intrigued many geologists from around the world. For decades, the granite has been examined for its peculiar geological characteristics. The altitude of the Cape is around 124 meters above sea level and starts from Tano Bay and stretches up to Virgin Mary Bay.The most famous bay is Groticelle which has some of the best beaches.

Pizzo is a small comune and port located in the Calabria region of Italy in the province of Vibo Valentia. The town is located on a steep cliff overlooking the gulf. Pizzo is spread over an area of 22 sq km and has a population of approximately 9000. The economy of the town is based on fishing for coral and tunny.

It is sometimes known as Pizzo Calabro and is a well known holiday destination for the locals from the surrounding towns. The historic center of the town is located on top of a cliff and the newer sections of the town have developed on both sides on the seashore. 

 

 

Nicotera

Nicotera is a small comune and town located in the Calabria region of Italy in the province of Vibo Valentia. The town is spread over an area of 32 sq km and has a population of close to 6700. The origins of the town are connected to the ancient city of Medma which was made by Locresis of Locri epizephiri.

During the rule of the Romans in the regions the port was the only place that survived. It was then conquered by the Normans and it was only in the 13th century that the town progressed economically. The Jewish settlement of Nicotera, Giudecca was promoted during the ancient times to encourage the economy of the town.

The town is Stilo is spread over an area of 78 sq km, has a population of 2800 and located 151 km away from the city of Reggio Calabria. The economy of the region is based on agriculture, mainly the production of wine, cheese, olive oil and cereals. There are a few mines in the region for lead and iron.

Tropea

Tropea is a sea side resort located in the Calabria region of Italy in the province of Vibo Valentina. The town is famous for its many beaches, which attracts several tourists during the summer months. Tropea is located on a reef in the gulf of St. Euphemia and is connected to the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The town offers dramatic views in the region and its stretch of coastline is known as Coast of the Gods. The historic center of the town is located on top of the cliffs, looking over to the sea. There are several resorts and even many camp sites in Tropea which attracts quite a lot of tourists from Italy as well as from Germany. 

 

Soverato

Soverato is a small comune and town located in the Calabria region of Italy in the province of Catanzaro. The town is spread over a small area of 7.7 sq km and has a population of close to 9800. The town is located on the Ionian Sea and is surrounded by several beautiful villages and white sand beaches along the coast.

The economy of the town is based on tourism from the other parts of Italy and mostly from the northern parts of the country. Soverato is mostly known for its night fair which takes place year during the summer months.

Squillace is a comune and town located in the Calabria region of Italy in the province of Catanzaro. The town is located in the southern part of Italy facing the Gulf of Squillace. It is spread over an area of 33 sq km and has a population of close to 3300. The name of the town is based on the old city of Scylletium and its ruins are still located in the nearby town of Borgia.

Squillace has been well known for its terra cotta pottery for centuries. Its terra cotta is highly sought after all over Italy and even in other countries. Squillace is also well known for Pignata, which is a ceramic artistic style.

The town is located a few kilometers from Locri and Reggio Calabria, on top of a hill which is made from sea fossils and is believed to be formed 60 million years ago. Gerace is spread over an area of 24 sq km and has a population of close to 3000.

Calabria is a small underdeveloped region which forms the tip of the Italian peninsula. The population is small at only about 2,012,000 persons and the economy, though growing, is weak. The region is difficult to navigate through the mountains and because of this communication networks and adequate road and rail systems have been hard to establish.
