Italian Fashion: Spring 2007

Spring/ Summer 2007: Purse and Handbag Trend Report

The new spring handbag collections are sleek and chic. They fall right in line with the womens wear and footwear trends for Spring/ Summer 07. Patents return- this time in primary bright Crayola colors. Intricate embroidered floral prints blossom at Etro and Roberto Cavalli. Inspiration from the Sixties takes form in polka dots, plastic, and black and white bold graphics- done best in small doses, the perfuse excuse for a darling dotted Blumarine clutch. Make way for metallic, especially silver- Ferragamo’s pebble-grain goatskin Gancio bag is particularly hard to resist. Chilly shades of grey toned hues match the mood of the foggy fashion capital, Milan. Blue bags are making a splash this season. Where you covet cobalt, navy, or aqua- head over to Hogan or Furla to check out the new selection.

Balenciaga

Leave it to Balenciaga to come out on top of this spring’s white trend with the Giant Brief and Giant Hobo, two smooth leather styles adorned with minimal gold hardware. The new S/S 07 color Aquamarine, an intense blue-green, in Work or City, will add a pop of color to the sexy white mini dresses spotted all over the runway. The Weekender in grey makes an ideal carry on bag to rack up frequent flier miles.

Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta has some to-die-for icy hues in the S/S 2007 collection. The Cocker in Cervo is a dusty pink shade that is unique to this collection. The signature Bottega Veneta braiding is only on the sides of the bag, but the braided handles, generous side pockets, and sumptuous leather make a rich statement. If you’re the type of girl who is loyal to her little black dress and pearls, the large Veneta style, a hobo in buttery woven Nappa leather, might be more your style. For a sweet surprise, Bottega Veneta’s classic shape debuts in a soft and feminine baby pink this spring.

Fendi

The Fendi B bag, available in yellow and cobalt patent leather has arrived, complete with oversized Perspex buckles with signature F logo detail on the brass buckle prong. Love it or hate it- you won’t be able to keep your eyes off this bag. In two of the hottest colors for spring, it’s playful and daring, not to mention, the easiest transition from day to night. The outrageously popular signature Fendi Spy satchel, still a favorite among the fashion crowds in Italy, is available in denim for the warmer months. If you prefer leather, you can’t go wrong with the Blueberry Spy in a gorgeous midnight blue. Silver is the choice metallic this spring. Fendi delivers with pewter leather in the small Messalina Tote, a logo-embossed shoulder bag with silver hardware and double buckled straps and a the roomier Large Villa Tote.

Tods

The main draw to Tod’s is that your handbag will look just as fabulous years down the road as the day you bought it. The Tod’s Miky Easy Ruched Shoulder Bag is supple leather with a gathered top and drawstring detail at the sides- it’s very casual but timeless in a deep terracotta orange. Carey Tote Media, a double top handle handbag with buckle accessory is an elegant and modern carryall for the busy urban woman.

Gucci

Gucci’s Positano Top Handle bag is a super stylish tote that comes in leather, canvas, or straw with scarf detail. The periwinkle blue croc tote makes the perfect companion for a day of shopping and brunch. The navy canvas style with chiffon embroidered flowers bag is pure luxury. Silver shine takes the Princy Hobo, a medium classic shape with the guccissima logo print and bow detail, to an entirely new level in the S/S 07 Gucci lineup.

Prada

Prada’s Juda Laminata and Cinghiale Frame Bag, of woven jute framed handbag with white boar skin trim, is an effortless choice for yachting around the Aeolian Islands this summer. The Paglia & Vitello Daino Rings Bag, a black straw with tonal leather trim hand bag, rope handles, and grommet trim, has a refined design but the breezy material is a superb choice for lazy days spent soaking in the sun.
