The 2007 White Truffle SeasonWhite Truffle Fairs in ItalyTwo important fairs are a must visit for the 2007 white truffle season in northern Italy's Piedmont province. The 77th National White Truffle Fair of Alba (CN) runs from the 29 September to 11 November. The 53rd National White Truffle Fair of Moncalvo (AT) runs on the last two Sundays of October. Starts 9:00 a.m. on October 21 and 28. Please keep in mind that both the Alba and Moncalvo fairs are the events not to miss. These two cities have a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and the mystery of the truffle-both boast astronomical prices for their earthy gems. Then of course numerous smaller truffle fairs abound in the region whose markets and community offer cultural events for both locals and visitors to the region. Truffle season is a serious business in the Piedmont provinces of Alessandria (AL), Asti (AT) and Cuneo (CN)-even for the smaller communities. It is not just about selling truffles it is also about promoting the local gastronomical specialties.
Each community promotes its locally produced wines, cheeses, salami, sweets, dried fruits and nuts in celebration of the truffle harvest-served at the fairs and available to buy direct from the producers themselves. In the midst of these communities one will find restaurants who offer white truffle on their menu. However, beware that the 2007 season is not abundant with truffles, as the weather conditions this year did not encourage much growth. The white truffle's current going price for 2007 is 3000 Euros per kilogram. 2007 regional truffle fair schedule:
