Italian Services in the Nations Capital

About the Italian Embassy in Washington -- Stellar Friendly Service :

thumbs up italian embassyOne of the things that I disliked the most about Italy was the Bureaucracy. I left Italy about 20 years ago and I still remember how frustrating it was to go to a government office and how badly we were treated during those visits. I was so pleased with the government operations worked here in the United States and I dreaded having anything to do again with Italian state bureaucracy.

About one year ago one evening I faxed a document to the Italian Embassy asking how to register my 5 year old son as an Italian. I was expecting no answer. I nearly fell off my chair when the morning after I saw a reply fax from the Embassy with all the information I had requested. I thought they must have made a mistake of some sort. Maybe they thought I was the nephew of the Ambassador?  A few days later I sent an email asking more information about my son's citizenship and again I received a prompt answer. What's going on? In March 2006, my neighbor ( originally from Belarus ) needed information on a Visa to go to Italy. I sent an email to the embassy visa email address. Again I received a prompt answer.

The day after I had to go to the Embassy to sign for a petition and to get some paper for the visa. The three ladies at the reception where extremely friendly and helpful. Even the waiting time to get my information was just a few minutes.

I am so impressed! Is this still Italy? Are we getting that good? The only bad thing about the Embassy is the parking! It took me half hour to find a spot and I was lucky. There is no parking about anywhere in that area. They really have to do something about the absurd parking situation they have there. Of course if you have a diplomat tag you are fine but for us poor mortals, please resolve the parking situation since everything else is getting an A.
