Faralli Restauri is the atelier that restored the 1957 Maserati 450S Costin-Zagato raced by Stirling Moss at Le Mans along with other classic Italian cars. Today the tradition of excellence continues under the artful management of Walter Faralli, the son of Antonio “Mario” Faralli and Luca Mazzanti, the son of Faralli’s master painter, Rossello Mazzanti.
Inheriting a business with 40 year sterling reputation was a natural progression from working on classic, moveable works of art with the many craftsmen who restored and rebuilt them. The Antas V8 GT is the result of the inspired quest to build a new car that embodies the character of this Golden Age of car building that they felt was absent in the automotive machines of today.
Reminiscent of the Panoz GTR or the work of the 1930s coachbuilders Figoni et Falaschi, the creation of Faralli & Mazzanti bears the Etruscan name Antas which translates to “eagle” in this ancient language. Presented in an aluminum skin, the hand-built GT is shaped in the iconic teardrop styling similar to the Porsche Cayman. For Faralli & Mazzanti this is the essence of their work: reviving the level of methodology and attitude that propelled Italian coachbuilders of the 1930s through 1960s to dizzying heights of prestige and industry respect for present-day clients who desire unique new cars.
However “new” is not the same as modern to these two ingenious minds. The operative philosophy at work from design to production is “hand crafted.” The Antas is developed from a design sketch and then transferred to 1:1-scale plans. Contrary to the popular use of computer aided design by auto manufacturers today, the body panels are cut, formed and shaped by hand over a steel skeleton.
The Antas translates the concept of “haute couture” and meticulously applies it to the automotive ideal. In the same way a tailor-made suit is designed around the body of the wearer in the highest quality materials, customers are in control of the configuration of the Antas starting with their choice of the initial shape of the demonstration model and engine type.
This Antas philosophy of hand crafting is evident in every design project that Faralli and Mazzanti undertake which include; fashion accessories, luggage sets, jewels and of course motorcars. It’s in their design and production of motorcars where this philosophy achieves its maximum elevation. Their creation of one-off vehicles for discerning customers can meet the most demanding requirements, making Faralli and Mazzanti the first choice to bring an automotive dream into reality through a year-long process.
The Antas V8 GT glides down the road with the look of a premium French model from the '20s-30s period. With its sweeping and voluptuous fenders, it’s a definite “tip of the hat” to the curvaceous design language of that era. The result is a motorcar that is classy, graceful, and positively stunning from every angle.
“Attention to detail” may be an understatement in describing both the car’s exterior and interior features. From the outside of the car, it’s clear that performance-wise this car has the soul of a champion. Side-mounted exhaust outlets and the flush-fitting gas inlet flap set into the rear screen evokes memories of past Le Mans racing cars. To keep the split front windscreen spotless, unique roof-mounted wipers are employed.
More than any other detail, it’s the 1938 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic inspired tailgate-mounted tail fin that incorporates a miniature video camera to provide a visual feed to the driver to ensure maximum rear visibility that is the most striking. Powered the forceful Maserati V8 engine fed by carburetors the Antas prototype remains faithful to the design of the era revered by Faralli & Mazzanti.
The Antas prototype effectively reflects a high regard for “old school” craftsmanship while making use of the advanced drive train mechanics of a 1966 Maserati Quattroporte V8 including Weber carburetors. Customers can choose any front-engine and rear-drive power train common on the Mercedes-Benz or a Jaguar.
If the exterior leaves you breathless, the opulent interior will help you recover with its indulgent creature-comforting, hand-sewn brown leather seating and appointments. Features such as an instrument panel decorated with precious metals, a roof-mounted ignition flick switch and engine starter button with a dashboard LCD screen for the rear-mounted visibility camera, make driving the Antas an exercise in pure driving pleasure.
From customizing the initial design and selecting the engine power train to the construction and delivery accompanied by a DVD and photo album that documents the entire year long process, a customer is assured the Antas of their dreams for only $800,000. This car is a remarkable achievement for Faralli & Mazzanti that successfully brings Old World quality to bear on the automotive technology advancements of today. As befitting a custom work of art, each Antas that is built is appropriately recorded with an individually numbered identification plate made of silver in the cockpit.
