POPE TO MEET JEWS AND MUSLIMS ON GERMAN PAPAL TOUR
(ANSA) - Vatican City, July 20 - Pope Benedict XVI will meet representatives of the Jewish and Muslim communities in Berlin when he makes his third official visit to Germany in September.
Details of the-two day visit to take place from September 22 to September 25 were announced on Wednesday.
The pontiff will fly from Rome to Berlin and will be formally welcomed by German President Christian Wulff at his official residence Bellevue Castle.
The pope will meet Chancellor Angela Merkel at the headquarters of the German Episcopal Conference in Berlin before visiting the federal parliament.
During his visit he will celebrate Mass at Berlin's Olympic stadium and also travel to the city of Erfurt where he will take part in an ecumenical celebration.
He is also expected to meet Helmut Kohl, former chancellor of Germany, and representatives from the country's Orthodox Churches, before celebrating Mass and praying the Angelus in Freiburg.
