TURIN PROSECUTORS OPEN PROBE INTO NEW JUVE STADIUM

(ANSA) - Turin, October 20 - Turin prosecutors have opened a probe into building work on Juventus's new stadium in the city.

The 27-time Italian champions are not suspected of any wrongdoing and may be an injured party.

The investigation regards suspicions that steel used in the structure does not comply with regulations.

Police seized documentation from Juve's headquarters and staged searches at offices in Piedmont, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The opening of the stylish, comfortable new ground at the start of this season was heralded as a step forward for Italian football.

Its inauguration made Juve the first Serie A club to own their home stadium and to be able to use it to generate revenue.

Other Italian sides rent their grounds from the local council or, in the case of AS Roma and Lazio's home, the Stadio Olimpico, from the Italian Olympic Committee.
