Italian social security asks 1 cent from 84-year-old retiree

(ANSA) - Rimini, October 21 - Italian social-security agency INPS demanded that an 84-year-old retiree return one euro cent, local press reported on Monday in Rimini, a coastal city on the Adriatic.

INPS claims the pensioner received a cent in excess of what was owed her for the period beginning January 1, 1996 and ending December 31, 2000.

The registered letter also indicated "the possibility to pay reimbursement in installments".

The son of the retiree, a man named Claudio, criticized the money spent on the official notice, and added, "I won't pay - or I'll ask for the installment plan".
