ITALY TO STAND BY IRANIAN OPPOSITION

(ANSA) - Rome, February 9 - The Italian government will not be intimidated by an attempted attack against its embassy in Tehran and will continue to support the Iranian opposition, European Affairs Minister Andrea Ronchi said on Tuesday.

"The assault against the Italian embassy is a serious and unacceptable action," he said.

"Italy will not waiver from its policy of firmness and will continue to back Iranian citizens who, at though risking their lives, hold demonstrations to demand their right to freedom, democracy and respect of human rights".
