TUTTI LEGGONO ADA NEGRI E GRAZIA DELEDDA 1892 (p136)
Antonio "Bellacoscia" Bonelli (on the left) is the most famous italian outlaw of the XIX century. He stayed free for nearly 50 years, until he died in the bed of his shelter, shortly before the beginning of the XX century. He is also known for being a gentleman. His fame led other young kids to become brigands as well, like the 16 years old Michele Schirò (on the right).
The picture was taken during the last years of the XIX century. Giuseppe Giacosa (on the left) and Arrigo Boito are huge friends. In 1898 they are 51 and 56 years old respectevely. After the failure of "Mefistofele" at the Scala theatre (1868), Boito had to wait until 1875 in order to play "Mefistofele" again, this time in Bologna: with some little changes, the play was critically acclaimed. After being played in Europe, New York and Boston, finally, on May the 25th 1881, Mefistofele was played at the Scala again.
