Radda in Chianti is a commune and town located in Tuscany, Italy in the province of Siena. The town is located close to Florence and Siena and is mainly known for its natural beauty. Radda in Chianti is quite a small town with an area of just 80 sq. km and a population of only approximately 1200.

Located on top of a hill at an altitude of 800 meters, the town is located between the valleys of two rivers in the region. The main economy here is agriculture, wine, clothes and furniture production. Radda in Chianti is famous for its olive oil and for its Chianti wines.

Podesta’s Palace

Radda in Chianti has various examples of medieval architecture; most of them are well preserved. The Podesta’s palace is one such example which dates back to the middle ages and has been significantly undamaged ever since. Saint Giusto in Salcio Parish

The Saint Giusto in Salcio Parish is one of the most important religious places in Radda in Chianti. Like most other structures in the town, the church dates back to the middle ages and has an interesting architecture which is typical to the region. Radda in Chianti is a fortified town, and the church is built amidst fortification too. The church has a fortified structure with high circular towers around it within which the church is located. The interiors of the church are kept fairly simple and plain with only a few decorations.

Saint Polo in Rocco Parish

The Saint Polo in Rocco Parish is the second most important church in Radda in Chianti. The church is quite similar to Saint Giusto in Salico Parish and has the same style of architecture. Although smaller in size, the church is fortified with high towers in a circular shape and has been elegantly decorated inside. The façade of the church has gothic as well as Romanesque features. There are a few beautiful frescoes and a wooden crucifix which date back to the 14th century inside the church. There are also a few liturgical ornaments.

Two of the most known festivals in town are the Vintage feast and the wine feast which are held every year in March and September. “Radda nel bicchiere”, Radda in the glass, is a wine tasting festival that is usually held in May. These festivals are much popular among wine lovers and connoisseurs. Getting to Radda in Chianti

The closest cities to Radda in Chanti are Siena and Florence. Visitors can easily reach the town from the airport in Florence or Siena by bus or taxi since there are several state buses that leave every hour from the main bus station in both these cities. There are also plenty of buses that reach Radda in Chianti from the other smaller towns and villages in the province of Siena. Those who have their own car can easily reach the town by road from Siena or Florence. Since the airports are located quite close to the town, reaching Radda in Chianti is fairly easy.

The easiest way to move around in Radda in Chianti is by foot. The town is known for its beautiful landscapes and its traffic free atmosphere which can be experienced by tourists by walking around the older sections of the town. However, there are local buses in the town which are widely used by the locals for travelling to the various sections of the town and for visiting the nearby villages. Local buses can be used by visitors too since the tickets are very inexpensive. Visitors who have their own cars can easily move around in cars or can rent mopeds during their stay.

There are also a few good pizzerias and bars in town that serve fresh appetizers and light lunch. Radda in Chianti only has a few options when it comes to shopping. There are only a few shopping streets here in town where locals do their daily purchases. There are a few shops that sell locally made clothes, crafts and artifacts and souvenirs made by the locals. However, the best things to purchase in Radda in Chianti are bottles of local Chiantis and good olive oil. The region grows excellent quality olives and has many well known vineyards that are famous for their Chiantis all over Italy.
