CollazzoneCollazzoneCollazzone is situated on a high hill in the south part of the region. This town looks like a fortified little place, typical of the medieval time. The lanes, the walls, the big towers are very impressive and from them you can see the valley which has squaring and multicolour plots. Dipped in the green plain, the castle dominates the places around that belong to its town council. Amongst them, there are the very old S. Lorenzo's monastery, one of the first Benedictine abbeys, the castles Torricella and Assignano that are very old as well, the medieval towns Piedicolle, Collepepe, Casalalta, Gaglietole and Canalicchio (this place, distant 6 km from Torreburchio, is remarkable for its singular feast with torches and candles along the streets, on May 1). The country-sides offer excellent products: olive and sunflower oil, fruit, ovine, pork and poultry breeding. The best dishes are roast meat, grill, different kinds of pasta made with eggs and seasoned with entrails sauces, asparagus and mushrooms. The typical wines are strong but ideal to accompany this rustic cuisine. The best artisan products derive from the working of iron and wood. |
