Catania has a Mediterranean climate, with some elements of subtropical and continental weather. The rainfall is rather low, ranging between 450 and 550 mm annually, with very marked summer minimum and moderate peak in the autumn.
The winter is often short, with quite mild maximum daytime temperatures, and a drop at night.
The long summer is very hot, though rarely with high humidity. While along the coast the maximum temperatures are partly contained by the sea breeze to the east, in the inner part of the city and the plain they are very high.
