One result of this partnership was the Ferrari 166/250 MM Abarth, a unique model created in 1953. This car took part in various international races, most notably the legendary Mille Miglia. However it is the fantastic exhaust system design by Abarth that solidified its link to Ferrari for their models built at Maranello. Several of the models featuring the Abarth exhaust system have won titles in World Championships.

Today the relationship between these two brands has been rejuvenated with the introduction of the Abarth 500 that was distributed in limited numbers to European dealers in the past few months. With the attention now focused on the new and exclusive Abarth 695 “Tributo Ferrari”, Abarth will be able to extend its range with this superior entry for the luxury sports car market. This car provides Ferrari customers a practical but none the less exciting alternative for urban mobility in a compact size.

The stylistic changes in the new Abarth 695 “Tributo Ferrari” are part of what makes this model so exciting along with substantial engineering modifications jointly developed by Abarth and Ferrari engineers. Starting with the engine, this model features a 1.4 Turbo T-Jet 16v, tuned to deliver over 180 horsepower. Next on the list is a Manual Transmission Automated (MTA) electromechanical gearbox that has a race-inspired paddle gearshift. This is the outstanding feature that enhances the engine’s performance by reducing gearshift times.

Drivers will also be impressed with the improved acceleration; the car is fitted with Ferrari design inspired performance tires on 17” alloy wheels. For those who crave excitement behind the wheel, the strengthened suspension and braking systems have been designed to provide extra power. This is accomplished by Brembo’s 284 mm multi-section discs with fixed four-piston calipers, along with Abarth’s variable back-pressure “dual mode” exhaust for excellent performance with assured safety from special shock absorbers.

It’s difficult not to get exciting when viewing the exterior of the car which is finished in “Scuderia” Red, with detailing that includes wheels and rear air intakes in racing grey plus carbon fiber door mirrors. Visibility on the road regardless of conditions is assured with the Xenon headlights that feature two beam functions designed by  Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting which provide three times more of the light intensity and durability than standard halogen lamp headlights.

The driver’s comfort is also taken into consideration with great sporting style. The seating of the interior displays the attention to detail that has made the Italian design of Ferrari and Abarth envied around the world. The “Abarth Corsa by Sabelt” seats of the Abarth 695 have a base created from carbon fiber and are finished in black leather for a perfect blend of racing characteristics; they are light weight and provide superior body support. These seats weigh approximately 10 kg less than the standard seat and the provide stability for the driver against lateral and longitudinal forces with crush-resistant foam while delivering ergonomic comfort drivers want in car seats.

With the black leather steering wheel accented by red leather inserts and a tri-color hub which serves as the mounting for the MTA gearshift paddles. Jaeger is responsible for the outstanding instrument panel which was inspired Ferrari instrumentation. The Abarth 965 follows the classic pattern of attention to interior detailing with racing pedals personalized with the Scorpion logo, special kick plates, a plate bearing the vehicle series number and foot wells are covered entirely in non-slip aluminum.  These are just a few of the features that add to the overall driving comfort of this finely crafted automobile.

This model is an excellent example of the reasons for the industry respect of these two auto manufacturers whose passion for their craft and the pleasure it provides millions of drivers is legendary. From the most famous race tracks in the world to the miles of highway throughout Europe, drivers have sung the praises of the cars produced by these two companies whose “marquee” on the industry is undeniable. The Abarth 695 is certain to thrill drivers and spectators once it is out on the road.
